Banana Nut Bread Recipe:
My husband, who is well-known for his banana bread, has mastered this recipe throughout the years. He makes it often, and it always goes away quickly! Our favorite technique to use up overripe bananas that never go to waste, it’s easy to make. It’s incredibly moist and a fantastic on-the-go breakfast option. We even used this recipe to make banana muffins.
I prefer banana bread to fruit cake any day, and this loaf keeps moist for days. It also makes a tasty and nice holiday gift.
Ingredients for Banana Bread:
To prepare the best banana bread, you’ll need the following ingredients: flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, eggs, softened butter, vanilla essence, and, of course, really ripe bananas. Although they are optional, adding walnuts and raisins gives it a wonderful flavor and texture, making it resemble banana nut bread.
Can I Omit Walnuts and Raisins?
Indeed! You can leave out the walnuts and raisins and still make the recipe work. Because someone in the family is allergic to walnuts, we always prepare it nut-free. You will still have the most delicious, moist, and tender loaf. You may also make Chocolate Chip Banana Bread by substituting some chocolate for them.
How to Ripen Bananas:
- Quick Oven Method: Put your bananas on a baking sheet and bake them at 250˚F for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on how ripe they were initially, if you want them to ripen more quickly.
- 24 Hour Counter Method: You can put the bunch of bananas (without separating them) in a paper bag, cover it, and let it sit at room temperature for a day if you can wait that long. Ethylene is released by bananas, causing them to ripen. It will go more quickly if you include an apple in the bag.
Can I Freeze Overripe Bananas?
DO NOT throw away overripe bananas if you are not yet ready to bake them!
Bananas can be frozen for up to three months if they are unpeeled and placed in a freezer-safe bag with any air removed. Banana bread can be made with thawed bananas. For simpler use in smoothies, you may also freeze them peeled and chopped. P.S. You can use the same technique to freeze an entire banana bread!
How to Make Banana Bread:
The simplest banana bread recipe is this one. Because it’s simple, we mix it in a stand mixer, but you can also use an electric hand mixer or even a hand whisk. No specialized equipment is needed. You will quickly become an expert if you watch the video tutorial below!

- Add eggs and mashed bananas.
- Add the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, and salt) to the batter after whisking them together.

Substitutions for a Healthy Banana Bread:
- By substituting honey for sugar, my sister Anna turned this into a honey banana bread.
- Instead of using all-purpose flour, use organic whole wheat flour.
- Use 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed in place of 1 tablespoon flour.
- When using really ripe bananas, which add a lot of sweetness, cut the sugar down to 1/2 cup.
