Matcha green tea latte

Matcha green tea latte

I’ve had a matcha obsession ever since our first trip to Japan. Matcha pastries, matcha ice cream, and matcha smoothies… Though I adore them all, a creamy matcha latte is my favorite way to consume matcha. Matcha’s slightly bitter flavor combines with coconut milk in this instance to achieve the ideal creamy flavor balance. I like to prepare my matcha latte at home because I find that matcha lattes from coffee shops are usually overly sugary!

What is matcha?

Green tea leaves are pulverized and used to make matcha powder. In contrast to steeping green tea, a matcha latte uses the whole tea leaf. Consequently, matcha has around ten times as many nutrients as ordinary green tea! (Click here for further matcha advantages if you’re interested). Of course, the reason we adore it is its flavor.

I adore using matcha powder’s earthy, somewhat bitter flavor in desserts like doughnuts, ice cream, milkshakes, icing, and smoothies!

How to Make a Matcha Latte

The recipe for matcha lattes is really simple. There are only three ingredients (plus a small amount of sugar, if desired), and no sophisticated barista equipment or abilities are required. Even though a tiny kitchen whisk or milk frother would work just as well, you might want to spend money on an authentic matcha whisk if you plan to create a lot of lattes. Here’s how to go about it:

  • Sort your matcha powder first. It can be challenging to whisk away the clumps, so this step will help ensure that your matcha latte is smooth, creamy, and lump-free.
  • Place the matcha in a mug and cover it with freshly boiled, hot water. Until the matcha green tea powder is evenly distributed, thoroughly whisk. To get your matcha to froth, you want to move your whisk in an up-and-down or side-to-side motion rather than the typical circular pattern.
  • After heating the coconut milk (almond milk works well too!), pour it over the frothy water and whisk it once more to create froth.
  • After tasting your latte, determine how much, if any, sugar you wish to add. A small drop of maple syrup is how I enjoy mine.

What Is the Best Matcha Powder?

Purchasing matcha for the first time can be challenging because there are numerous brands to choose from and their quality varies greatly. I’ve tried all of the best matcha powders in lattes, baked goods, and tea with water. For my lattes, I prefer the Golde Pure Matcha Ceremonial Grade the most! Even without any additional sugar, its strong flavor permeates the milk in a latte.
